The scientific world has made a discovery that will be immensely welcome to scores of arthritis sufferers. Virgin coconut oil may relieve the inflammation associated with the condition — and even more effectively than medications as an arthritis treatment. This was the finding after researchers in India took out the unique antioxidants contained in the oil. Then, injected them into arthritic rats.

Arthritis drugs have serious adverse reactions. And they fail to reduce the inflammation of arthritis adequately. So the authors undertook a new study. They sought to ascertain the effects of coconut oil on the disease. The action of the oil’s antioxidants were compared with that of Indomethacin. This is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It is commonly prescribed for arthritis treatment. The oil proved more beneficial.

The latest findings add to those from earlier studies involving virgin coconut oil. They show it may be useful in preventing illnesses, as well as alleviating an impressive list of health disorders. Much of its benefits are derived from its content of medium-chain fatty acids. They note lauric acid.

Live in the Now spoke with nutritional expert and author Dr. Mark Mincolla about the study. “This information regarding coconut oil’s powerful anti-inflammatory effect is of vital importance to us all,” he says. “Especially when you consider that arthritis encompasses over 120 illnesses. And inflammation is now believed to be biochemically responsible for 72 percent of all disease.”

The Secret Behind Coconut Oil’s Benefit as an Arthritis Treatment

According to Dr. Bruce Fife, author of The Arthritis Cure, evidence is mounting that arthritis is caused mainly as a consequence of incurring an infection. Yet antibiotics have no effect on infections in joints since the structures are encased in a tough membrane that prevents the passage of blood into them. Therefore, even when a person takes an antibiotic to get rid of a systemic infection, the bacteria can remain hidden in the joints. Furthermore, antibiotics only work against bacteria. Thus, they don’t have any effect on infections caused by viruses or fungi. So since antibiotics can’t help, what can?

The infection problem is why coconut oil is so valuable. Its medium-chain fatty acids are potent antibacterial agents. They are also anti-viral and anti-fungal agents. Fife advocates taking 2 to 4 tablespoons of the oil daily. Take to eliminate chronic infections from the body.

Not All Coconut Oils Have the Same Amount of Antioxidants

Antioxidants are not present in equal amounts within coconut oils on the market. The quantity depends on how the oils are processed, as well as how close they are to their natural state. Opt for virgin oils, not the refined ones. Among the virgin oils, look for those manufactured using the wet-milling method that uses heat. And steer clear from those that have been cold-pressed. The cold-pressed mode of processing is an advantage for olive oil, but the antioxidants are more abundant in coconut oil that has been processed with heat.
